We are going to continue to engage in some introspection. I find that consistently pausing to do some introspection improves my mood and therefore my mental health. It helps me to see what behaviors are helpful and which are harmful so that I know what to stop and what to encourage within myself. With that let’s start reaching for that shovel so that we can dig a little deeper into this and plant the right seeds.
What do you do when faced with a lot of work?
How do you feel?
What going through your head as you start to tackle those daily, weekly, or monthly to-do lists?
If you’re anything like me you internally roll your eyes and sigh. Dread, annoyance, and hesitancy clouds your mood and mind. Allowing thoughts like “I do not want to do this”, “I will do this later”, and “I will do this later” the last of which may or may not happen that same day.
As I’m sure we all know none of those are helpful yet we feed them. We let ourselves continuously think and say them. In doing so our day becomes dreary and drags on which takes a toll on our mental health. Even though it may seem difficult or pointless we must overcome this mentality. It is one of the first places we should weed, dig in and plant new seeds.
When we are left with options that appear to leave us tired either way we choose we need to shake off the assumption that we will be exhausted at all. Whether we get to our chores at 9 pm or are faced with them at 3 am, it is best for us to do them, to do them happily even. I know this may seem impossible, stupid, or maybe even insensitive. (If any of those hit you that way I must point you to Philippians 4:13 KJV and Jeremiah 17:9 KJV.) But it can and must be done.
We must find the energy and motivation to just do it. To embue ourselves with the feeling of energy, and of being positive. Instead of thinking of the work involved, think of how the end result will make you feel. Focus on the knowledge that once achieved you will feel better, more energetic, and more purposed. Doing so for long enough will make it true. As ridiculous as that may sound, as overly simple, that truly is what must be done. Believe me, I used to think that method was not possible, and insensitive but I got tired of feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and depressed and just did it! It really is that simple.
Now would I say it’s easy? At first, no it’s not. It takes a fair amount of commitment. Of saying to yourself “no matter how I feel now, I choose to feel differently.” Once you do that for, even a few days, you will notice the change. It will become easier and easier and eventually true. With time you will have made that true. You will be happier and feel more productive.
Philippians 4:13 KJV I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Jeremiah 17:9 KJV The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
